Nikon Creates New 800 Number Exclusively For Digital Customers

MELVILLE, N.Y., April 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Nikon announced today that its
new toll free number for digital customers, 1-800-NIKON-UX, is now open for
business. The new number was established exclusively to answer questions
about Nikon Coolpix Digital Cameras, Scanners, and D1 Professional Digital
Camera System and related software.
"Customers who purchase digital cameras have different questions and
needs," said Bill Giordano, National Marketing Manager for Consumer Digital
cameras at Nikon. "By devoting a separate set of resources for digital
information, we can ensure that Nikon customers will have a rewarding
experience as they learn about using their digital Nikon products."
Customers who own a Nikon digital product can call the new 800 number
24 hours a day, 7 days a week and receive information about how to use their
Nikon digital cameras, scanners and related software.
Giordano noted that the increase in digital camera purchases in the past
two to three years, and the explosive growth predicted over the next three to
five years, also prompted Nikon to create a separate 800 number exclusively
for digital customers.
"We receive hundreds of calls a day from consumers asking questions that
range from where to buy Nikon cameras to how to scan and download images from
film into their computers," he added. "Our customer service representatives
are trained to handle general digital photography questions as well as
questions specific to Nikon cameras."
Customer support related to how to use the Nikon D1, Nikon Capture and
Super Coolscan is free for one year; questions about individual's computers
are excluded. Customer support for all Coolpix cameras and Coolscan III is
free for six months, excluding computer-related questions. Computer-related
questions are charged at $19.99 per case. Nikon also offers a one-year
unlimited support package for $79.99 per year per product. Customers can
charge the cost of these services to their Visa, MasterCard or American
Express cards.
Nikon's digital family of products includes the newly-introduced Coolpix
990 3.34 megapixel 3x zoom Nikkor lens camera; the Coolpix 950 2.11 megapixel
3x zoom Nikkor lens camera; the Coolpix 800 2.11 megapixel 2x zoom Nikkor lens
camera; the Super Coolscan 2000; the Coolscan III; and the D1 2.74 megapixel
digital professional SLR.
