PITTSBURGH, Jan. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Peoples Natural Gas Company is
maintaining regular deliveries of natural gas service to its 350,000 customers
in western Pennsylvania with no apparent extraordinary incidents following the
Year 2000 -- or "Y2K" -- rollover at midnight, the company said at 1 a.m. EST.
"The extensive preparations we made over the last several years and the
dedicated efforts of our employees are paying off today," said Tom Wester,
vice president -- distribution operations for Consolidated Natural Gas Company
(NYSE: CNG), the parent company of Peoples Gas. "As always, we will remain
vigilant to ensure that our system continues to provide the same safe,
reliable, cost-effective service our customers have come to depend on."
As part of its extensive Y2K preparations, Peoples Gas has augmented its
regular 24-hour emergency service with additional staffing for the holiday
weekend.
The company noted that a small number of customers may experience the
kinds of isolated service problems that can occur at any time given the large
number of customers served. Peoples Gas crews will restore service as quickly
as possible if service is affected.
Peoples Gas customers who have service problems should call the customer
service center at 412-244-2500 or toll-free at 1-800-400-4271, as they would
any other time. They should not call the 911 emergency center.
