The FIRST Robotics Competition is a nationwide competition that teams
professionals and students together to solve engineering design problems in an
intense and competitive way. The 2003 competition will include 20,000
students on over 800 teams from every state, as well as Canada, Brazil and the
United Kingdom.
"The FIRST Robotics Competition allows talented students to share
innovative ideas and work together to achieve a common goal," said Siemens VDO
Automotive President and CEO John Sanderson. "The competition gives us the
opportunity to get involved with today's science and math students and help
guide the engineers of the future."
The FIRST Robotics Competition formally kicks off on Jan. 4, 2003 at the
Novi Expo Center in Novi, Mich. Each team will then have eight weeks to
construct a robot to compete in 24 preliminary competitions held across the
United States. The competitions are high-tech spectator sporting events
challenging the end product of weeks of focused brainstorming, real-world
teamwork, dedicated mentoring, project timelines and deadlines.
"Siemens VDO Automotive is committed to being a good corporate citizen and
developing the next generation of innovators," said Sanderson. "The FIRST
Robotics Competition is a fun, life-changing, career molding experience that
provides an effective way for Siemens VDO Automotive to contribute to the
community, while preparing and creating a future workforce of innovators."
