CHICAGO, Jan. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Aerial Communications (Nasdaq: AERL), one
of the country's leading wireless telecommunications providers, today
announced that its extensive efforts to be ready for any Y2K computer concerns
have paid off. The Company marked the new millennium with no disruptions of
service or other technical glitches.
The well-publicized Year 2000 computer problem, also known as the
Millennium Bug or Y2K, could have caused computers to think the year is 1900
instead of 2000. Such a glitch could have resulted in disrupting
computer-driven services and tasks, though experts had varied widely on how
critical or extensive those disruptions would be.
"Aerial phones, service and systems worked as usual, thanks to the
tremendous amount of effort Aerial had taken to be ready for Y2K," said Don
Warkentin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Aerial.
Aerial had given Y2K readiness the highest priority during 1999, with
Aerial's Chief Technical Officer David Lowry leading a large team of subject
experts to address the issue, Warkentin explained. Aerial began its Y2K
readiness effort in late 1997, and would continue to monitor systems going
forward to safeguard their integrity and performance.
