Consolidated Natural Gas Company Makes Smooth Transition to Year 2000

    PITTSBURGH, Jan. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Consolidated Natural Gas Company
(NYSE: CNG) is open for business as usual today with all of its critical
financial and natural gas delivery systems in full operation.

    CNG will have spent about $12.5 million on preparations for the year 2000.
