OES Y2K State Operations Center Ends Activation Monday Evening

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Jan. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The Governor's Office of
Emergency Services Y2K State Operations Center will end its Y2K activation on
Monday, January 3rd at 7:00 p.m. as planned. The State Operations Center and
its regional counterparts had been activated since last Thursday, December
30th, at 7:00 a.m. The offices will maintain standard duty status.
In their final briefing from the Joint Information Center at 2:00 p.m.
today, OES Director Dallas Jones and state Chief Information Officer
Elias Cortez stated there had been no significant Y2K impacts on the state
thus far following the rollover to the year 2000. Jones emphasized that
mitigation efforts in California and around the world had been very successful
in preventing computer malfunctions during the transition. He added that
emergency preparedness efforts by California citizens will make them much
better prepared when the next natural disaster occurs here.
David Lema, Governor Gray Davis' Special Assistant for Y2K and Director of
the Follow-the-Sun project, reported the world's first business day of the
year 2000 proceeded without incident or major disruption. The project staff
monitored banking and business services around the world through California's
trade offices operated by the California Trade and Commerce Agency, plus a
network of business partners with offices in foreign countries.
Following closure of the Joint Information Center, requests for
Y2K-related information can be directed to the OES Information and Public
Affairs office at 916-262-1843.
