Chevy Chase Bank Completes Smooth Transition To The New Millennium

It's 'Business as Usual' for Bank Customers
During First Weekend of New Year

CHEVY CHASE, Md., Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Chevy Chase Bank, the largest
bank headquartered in the Washington, D.C. area, announced today that, as
expected, it has transitioned successfully to the new year, and business is
proceeding as usual throughout the Bank.
As part of the effort to remain visible during the transition, as on most
holidays, Chevy Chase Bank's supermarket branches were open for business and
its Customer Call Center representatives at 1-800-987-BANK were available to
answer questions on January 1, 2000. Chevy Chase Bank also provided customers
with access to their accounts through its extensive network of ATMs -- more
than 800 ATMs throughout the Greater Washington area.
"Our mission has always been to deliver superior service to our
customers," said Chevy Chase Bank Executive Vice President W. Scott McSween.
"Our employees worked hard for a smooth transition."
Chevy Chase Bank actively began preparing for the turn of the century in
1996. The Bank reviewed, updated and tested its systems, as well as worked
with its service providers for a seamless transition to the new millennium.
With a bank-wide commitment to meeting the Y2K challenge and ensuring
customer satisfaction, Chevy Chase Bank established Team Y2K, consisting of
employees from every department. Through a comprehensive internal education
program, the team was equipped to provide information to customers regarding
the Bank's readiness.
"We look forward to bringing our customers the best in banking convenience
in the Year 2000 and beyond," added McSween.
As the largest bank headquartered in the Washington metropolitan area,
Chevy Chase Bank offers the convenience of over 165 branches and more than 800
ATMs. These numbers continue to grow through the Bank's opening of new full-
service branches inside Giant Food stores. Chevy Chase Bank offers many
attractively priced financial products and services including deposit
accounts, Chevy Chase Check Card(R), Chevy Chase Home Banking(R), home equity,
mortgages, credit cards, consumer loans, investments and insurance as well as
