Unique Interior Personalization System Offers Flexible Storage Capacity And
                                Customization

DETROIT, Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The Floor Rail Interior Personalization
System from Johnson Controls (NYSE: JCI) provides consumers with improved
vehicle storage capacity and the opportunity for increased interior
customization. This innovative system was unveiled today at the 2004 North
American International Auto Show.

A proven leader in floor consoles that add value to vehicles, Johnson
Controls is displaying the consumer-driven Floor Rail System -- in a minivan
environment -- at its product and technology exhibit in room D2-15 of
Detroit's Cobo Center.
The system consists of an aluminum rail integrated into the vehicle load
floor that enables one or more consoles to be moved fore and aft and
positioned in any location along the rail. In addition, for further utility,
optional power outlets can be added to the system.
"In our research clinics, consumers have been very positive about the
Floor Rail System," said John Gorton, group vice president and general
manager, product and business development for the Automotive Group of Johnson
Controls. "This unique interior system is ideal for family-oriented vehicles,
three-row sport utility vehicles and crossover vehicles, and it helps create
an opportunity for enhanced interior personalization and utility."
According to Gorton, the system leverages an emerging trend in vehicles --
floor consoles that can be repositioned to maximize the value of the floor
console and the valuable areas between the seats. Consoles also could be
designed to stow under the instrument panel, which would create a "pass
through," as well as a hidden storage area.
Consumer research clinics conducted by Johnson Controls have found that
people want better solutions for storage of small items; improved
accommodation of electronics; enhanced handling options for frequently
transported items like books and purses; electrical power so passengers can
use audio devices and portable game gear; and upgraded pass-through
accessibility for everyone in the vehicle. Gorton said the Floor Rail System
addresses all of these needs.
The Floor Rail System shares characteristics and builds on the success of
Johnson Controls' Railport(TM) Interior Personalization System.
Johnson Controls is a global market leader in automotive systems and
facility management and control. In the automotive market, it is a major
supplier of integrated seating and interior systems, and batteries. For non-
residential facilities, Johnson Controls provides control systems and services
including comfort, energy and security management. Johnson Controls
(NYSE: JCI), founded in 1885, has headquarters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
