AT&T Appoints Harry Lightsey III Senior Vice President of Legislative and External Affairs in Southern Region

Sylvia Anderson Named State President of AT&T Georgia

    ATLANTA, Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) announced today
that Harry Lightsey has been named senior vice president of Legislative and
External Affairs in the company's southern region, which consists of nine
states. Additionally, the company announced that Sylvia Anderson has been
named president of AT&T Georgia. Anderson replaces Ron Frieson, who is
pursuing other business interests.
Lightsey, who previously was BellSouth's state president in South
Carolina, has nearly 25 years' experience in the telecom industry,
including holding a variety of positions in the external affairs and legal
organizations at BellSouth. Lightsey was deeply active in economic
development and community affairs issues in South Carolina and in 2002
received the Order of the Palmetto, the state's highest recognition of
achievement.
Anderson has been with AT&T for 15 years and most recently served as
vice president of Legislative and Regulatory Affairs for the company's
southern region. She began her career with AT&T as a senior attorney in
North Carolina and during her career has worked in the company's legal and
external affairs groups.
"Harry and Sylvia represent the level of commitment that we believe is
so important in our communities, and among the public officials and other
civic and business leaders in our states," said Bob Ferguson, AT&T
president-State Legislative and Regulatory Affairs. "They both are proven
leaders who are well-respected inside and outside the company. As AT&T
embarks on this new era, we are proud to have such high-caliber individuals
representing us."
Ferguson added, "We also wish Ron Frieson the very best in his future
endeavors. He established a rapport within our communities and among civic
leaders that has created a strong foundation for our future."
Lightsey's team will include nine state presidents in Georgia,
Kentucky, Florida, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, North Carolina, South
Carolina and Louisiana. The state presidents and their external affairs
organizations focus on legislative and regulatory issues, community affairs
and other civic activities. This includes working with state leadership to
create a policy environment that encourages investment and favors
consumers. It also includes playing a central role in the company's
philanthropic endeavors.
"These states in this region have a great pride, a rich culture and a
strong sense of community," said Lightsey. "We recognize the importance of
playing the role of an active corporate citizen. And, equally, we want to
do everything we can to deliver to customers in these states the very best
that today's communications services can deliver."
As president of AT&T Georgia, Anderson will work closely with community
leaders and local and regional AT&T external affairs managers to help meet
the company's objective of bringing the best new technology to consumers.
Specifically, this includes responsibility for legislative and regulatory
reform issues in the state, for a portion of the company's civic and
philanthropic endeavors.
"The future in our industry is all about consumers," said Anderson.
"And nowhere is there more promise than in Georgia. We are deeply committed
to fulfilling that promise - through customer service, community giving and
the type of products and services that really make a difference for our
customers."
