New GN 4800 Office Headset Enhances the Personal Work Environment by Supporting Hi-Fi Stereo, IP Telephony and Traditional Telephony

A Single Headset for both Music and Phone Communication

NASHUA, N.H., Jan. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- GN Netcom, the leading global
innovator of wireless office headsets, today announces the launch of the GN
4800 office headset solution. This innovative headset solution provides
seamless integration between PC systems and traditional or IP telephony,
enabling users to listen to streaming music and answer calls without ever
switching headsets. It provides increased productivity through hands-free
working, enables users to block out the noise of the modern workplace,
enhances job satisfaction and reduces stress, all while ensuring that users
never miss a call.
The GN 4800 office headset solution comes in classic black and silver,
which will complement any modern office. The headset can be easily stored on
the GN 4800 stand when not in use. Its simple plug-and-play capability means
users can start to enjoy listening to music and receiving calls as soon as it
is connected to their phone and PC USB port. And because the GN 4800 works
with both traditional and IP telephony, it provides a future-proof solution
for companies who have not yet migrated to IP telephony.
"Unwanted noise in open office environments can decrease productivity by
up to 20 percent(1), with photocopiers, fax machines and loud colleagues all
providing distracting sounds. To overcome this problem, many people turn to
music as a way to block out office noises," said Hans Henrik Lund, president
and CEO of GN Netcom. "However, when the phone rings, workers must first
remove their headphones to answer their calls. Worse yet, with music playing
through headphones, workers may not hear their ringing phones at all and
important business calls may be missed.
"The GN 4800 enables office workers to enhance their personal work
environment by eliminating the tradeoffs associated with using separate
headphones for music listening. It provides a smart solution by turning a
single headset into a multi-use tool for music, IP and traditional telephone
use."
With the GN 4800 users won't need to swap headsets every time they want to
change from listening to music to taking a call, and because the GN 4800
provides hands-free capability users have the flexibility to continue using
both hands for whatever they are doing. The high quality stereo sound provided
by the GN 4800 enables users to block out unwanted noise in the workplace and
focus on the task at hand. When using the headset for listening to music on
the PC, the GN 4800 will automatically switch to telephone mode when there is
an incoming call on the desk phone. If users choose to make a call from their
desk phone, the GN 4800 will also automatically switch to telephone mode.
There are two versions of the GN 4800 available: hi-fi stereo and wideband
stereo. The hi-fi stereo provides users with full hi-fi stereo quality (80-
15,000 Hz) plus a special noise-canceling microphone which filters out
unwanted background noise for crystal clear communications, even in the
noisiest working environment.
The wideband stereo headset gives users true wideband stereo quality
listening (100-8,000 Hz). It features a standard SoundTube boom arm, which
fits comfortably in-line with the user's face, is adjustable, bendable and
pivotal, providing maximum comfort.
Both headsets are designed for all-day comfort and feature GN Netcom's
PeakStop(TM) technology, which protects against sudden loud sound spikes such
as the background squeal of a fax machine. Acoustic shock is defined as being
exposed to a sound of over 135 dB SPL, but even lower sounds can damage the
ears. With PeakStop(TM) technology integrated into the headset, the GN 4800
cuts off noises at 118 dB SPL (RMS).
When the GN 4800 headset solution is connected to a PC (by USB cable) it
is powered from the PC, otherwise it works without power supply in telephone
mode. If the computer is shut down or the USB cable unplugged, the GN 4800
will automatically switch to telephone mode.
The GN 4800 is compatible with most desk phones, PC/Macintosh and
Microsoft Windows(R).

    Pricing & Availability
The GN 4800 will be available across North America at the beginning of
2006, with an MSRP of $149 for the GN 4800 wideband stereo and $189 for the GN
4800 hi-fi stereo.
