NASHUA, N.H., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- GN Netcom, Inc., a world leader in
hands-free communication technology, is showcasing an impressive array of
forward-thinking products at the CES show in Las Vegas, Nevada today.
Featured demonstrations include the Voice Array microphone, for voice-driven
PC applications; Bluetooth headset technology; Ellipse 2.4, the first 2.4 GHz
wireless headset; and a USB headset adapter.
"As the acknowledged technology leader in headsets, we've been successful
in applying our technological know-how into new innovations," said Mike
Fairweather, President and CEO of GN Netcom, Inc. "These new products have
been developed to serve the emerging hands-free communication markets for
SOHO, mobile, and speech recognition users. Our research has shown that while
these new users certainly require hands-free technology, they also demand
quality solutions which is what GN Netcom does best."
The Voice Array microphone. The Voice Array, an eight-microphone voice-
isolating array that isolates the voice while screening out unwanted ambient
noise, is designed for users of voice-driven PC applications who prefer not to
wear a headset. Unlike traditional PC microphones, the Voice Array sits
conveniently on top of the computer monitor and allows users to sit up to 3
feet away from their PC without sacrificing speech transmission accuracy. So
it's an ideal solution for any voice-driven application: speech recognition,
computer telephony, PC video conferencing, voice-enabled command and control
software, voice e-mail and gaming.
Bluetooth. GN Netcom will be demonstrating Bluetooth technology, the new
global wireless standard that enables high-quality, short-range wireless
communication between any Bluetooth-enabled devices. Bluetooth headsets will
give users the ability to communicate, hands-free and cord-free, with mobile
phones, computers and traditional telephones. GN Netcom will introduce a line
of Bluetooth products during the year 2000.
The Ellipse 2.4 wireless headset. Ellipse is the first wireless headset
to utilize the new 2.4 GHz frequency, and delivers crystal-clear,
interference-free reception in a coverage area of more than 125,000 square
feet. In addition to unrestricted freedom of movement, Ellipse also lets
users answer calls, and hang up remotely-without going back to the base unit.
USB Adapter. The GN USB (Universal Serial Bus) Adapter provides a direct link
between the headset and the PC processor, eliminating sound card quality and
compatibility issues, and bringing the highest possible sound quality to PC
headsets. This full-duplex USB adapter provides both clear mic input and high
fidelity stereo output. Two models will be available: one with 3.5 mm jacks
for standard PC headsets and the other with a GN Netcom Quick Disconnect, for
use with any GN Netcom professional headset.
