Merrill Lynch Commends Reintroduction of Financial Services Modernization Legislation

NEW YORK, Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Merrill Lynch today issued the following
statement commending the introduction of financial services modernization
legislation in the House of Representatives:

"We applaud the introduction of financial services modernization
legislation in the House of Representatives yesterday, the first day of
legislative business for the new Congress, and urge swift passage of this
crucial legislation.
"This legislation, which passed the House last year and moved through the
Senate Banking Committee before time ran out on the legislative session, now
enjoys widespread support across the entire financial services industry. It
can and should pass this year with substantial bipartisan support.
"We believe financial services modernization is the most significant
economic legislation on the congressional agenda. It will sweep away outdated
and anti-competitive laws, to the benefit of American consumers, workers and
the economy.
"We look forward to working with both the House and the Senate to achieve
these goals."
