Protein Polymer Technologies Receives Milestone Payment Under Genencor Exclusive Licensing Agreement

    SAN DIEGO, Jan. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Protein Polymer Technologies, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: PPTI), today announced
the receipt of its 1st milestone payment from Genencor International, Inc.
under the worldwide exclusive license agreement established at the end of
2000.  The license grants Genencor the right to use PPTI's proprietary protein
polymer design and production technology for industrial and personal care
product applications, while PPTI continues to retain all rights to its
technology for use in the development and commercialization of medical
products.  The milestone payment became due upon Genencor's incorporation of
the licensed technology into a development program with a partner.
    Genencor International is a world leader in the development and
manufacture of industrial enzymes and other biotechnology products.  Protein
Polymer Technologies, whose internal product focus is primarily medical, holds
the fundamental patents on the design and development of de novo proteins that
in form are highly repetitive polymers with predictable physical and
