Z-Wave is First Standard to Support Battery-to-Battery Networks
In November 2006, Zensys launched the third generation Z-Wave chip,
creating the lowest cost and lowest power consumption chip on the market.
The third generation Z-Wave chip also is the first to support
battery-to-battery networks, which extend the range of home control
applications and makes it possible to have entire networks of
battery-operated devices. All Z-Wave certified products will be fully
interoperable with the new chip, enabling homeowners to easily and
affordably expand their wireless home control networks.
"The release of the next-generation Z-Wave chip marks a milestone in
the industry by allowing for entire networks of battery operated devices
such as smoke detectors, blinds and security systems," says Tony Shakib,
CEO of Zensys. "This is a significant advancement and proves that Z-Wave is
pushing the envelope in wireless home control."
45 New Z-Wave Alliance Members
The Z-Wave Alliance has also experienced massive growth in 2006, adding
45 new companies that are developing Z-Wave enabled products. Some recent
additions to the Z-Wave Alliance include: Allion, Ascendtek, Crayon
Interface, CyberTEK, Eldat, Emergency Power & Automation Specialists,
Everspring Technologies, Hawking Technologies, HighDef Technology GmbH,
HomeNetwork News, Integrated Power Technologies, Jasco, Merten, Primare,
Reitz GmbH, Sun Woo InfoTech, Tell It On Line, uControl, ViewSonic, Z-Wave
Products and Z-Wave World.
"We are encouraged by the growth of Z-Wave and the wireless home
control market as a whole," said Sam Lucero, senior analyst at ABI
Research. "2006 was a ground breaking year for the lighting vendors and we
anticipate significant growth in 2007 as consumers begin to realize the
benefits of one- touch, wireless control of lighting, heating,
entertainment systems, and more. We also expect the adoption of IPTV to
boost the wireless home control space, as consumers will seek ways to
distribute content around their home."
