PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The Greater Philadelphia Food Bank
has added two Y2K food drop off dates to its schedule. The Food Bank will
accept stockpiled Y2K provisions Saturday, January 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
and Monday, January 17 (Martin Luther King Day) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., as
well as during regular business hours which are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.
The Food Bank is located at 302 West Berks Street, in North Philadelphia
and, since the new year began, has been accepting surplus Y2K foods from
individuals, families, and businesses. Food Bank officials have noted that
because its trucks are busy making food deliveries, donated items must be
dropped off at the Food Bank.
"We want to make it as convenient as possible for working individuals to
drop off food at the Food Bank this Saturday or Monday. Let's face it, it is
often difficult to take care of an errand such as this one during the work
week," said Jo Ann Connelly, president and CEO of the Food Bank.
The Greater Philadelphia Food Bank celebrates 20 years of food banking in
2001. Annually, the Food Bank distributes 8 million pounds of food to a wide
range of charitable organizations with feeding programs. The Food Bank serves
800 charities located in a five county region, including Bucks, Chester,
Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties.
