REDWOOD CITY, CA UNITED STATES
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences awards highest honor to
Time Warner Cable, BigBand Networks and other co-winners for network-based
                           time shifting service

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- BigBand Networks, Inc., a
leading provider of broadband multimedia infrastructure for video, voice
and data, today announced that it was named co-winner of an Emmy award with
Time Warner Cable and several other companies as part of the National
Television Academy's Technology and Engineering Awards. BigBand Networks,
Time Warner and their co-winners received the award for technology
contributions to Time Warner Cable's 'Start Over' digital television
feature in the category of "Outstanding Innovation and Achievement in
Advanced Media Technology for the Best Use of On-Demand Technology Over
Private Networks."
Start Over is designed to allow Time Warner Cable customers to jump to
the beginning of a program in progress without any pre-planning or in-home
recording devices. The Time Warner Cable service leverages network-based,
time-shifting functionality enabled by the BigBand Broadband Multimedia-
Service Router (BMR(R)) and other technologies to extend "on-demand"
capability to live programming.
BigBand's switched broadcast technology was also nominated for an Emmy
in "Outstanding Achievement in Advanced Media Technology for the Creation
of Non-Traditional Programs or Platforms." Switched broadcast allows
operators to significantly increase the number of television channels
available to subscribers. National cable operators have deployed the
technology to expand HDTV channels and add customized programming for
specific demographic groups.
"BigBand's technology is enabling the delivery of more personalized
content and HDTV programming, and helping operators allow consumers to
watch TV programming on their own schedules," said Amir Bassan-Eskenazi,
CEO of BigBand Networks. "We would like to congratulate Time Warner for
this achievement-we're honored to be part of it."
The winners of the 2006 Technology and Engineering Emmy were announced
at the opening night event for the International Consumer Electronics Show
(CES) on January 8, 2007 in Las Vegas. For more information on The National
