BURBANK, Calif., Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- The music of Pat Metheny has
always defied description, appealing to a broad audience with a sound that
crosses a wide-ranging spectrum of musical idioms. There's no more compelling
proof of the guitarist's category-defying sound than his recent, historic
nominations in no less than three separate 1999 Grammy divisions.
For the first time in Grammy history, an instrumentalist has been
nominated in Pop, Rock and Contemporary Jazz genres, all in one year and all
for selections from the same album.
Pat Metheny's critically acclaimed Warner Bros. Records debut album,
"Imaginary Day" kicks off the music triple play with a nomination for Best
Contemporary Jazz Performance. "Follow Me," a track from "Imaginary Day" was
also nominated for Best Pop Instrumental Performance, while yet another key
"Imaginary Day" cut, "The Roots Of Coincidence," garnered a nomination for
Best Rock Instrumental Performance. Together, the multi-category Grammy
nominations constitute an unprecedented accomplishment in the history of the
prestigious award.
Pat is currently at work on the score to the upcoming film, "A Map of The
World," starring Sigorney Weaver and Julianne Moore, directed by Scott Elliot
and produced by Kennedy/Marshall Productions. Look for a fall '99 release.
