ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Kathy Jia has been appointed,
effective immediately, to General Manager of MediaWave Advertising Company
(MediaWave), an advertising joint venture between China Central Television
(CCTV) and Encore International (EI), one of the largest exporters of Western
television programming to Mainland China.
From her new post in Beijing, Ms. Jia will develop and manage the existing
advertising inventory that MediaWave has built up since it began in January of
1998. Her focus will be to expand advertising inventory to include local TV
stations in addition to CCTV, and to sign up the 4A advertisers that are
flocking to China as its bid for WTO status is solidified.
Michelle Sie Whitten, president of Encore International stated, "We are so
pleased to have Kathy manage this important asset on behalf of Encore
International and CCTV. MediaWave has grown so quickly and we need someone to
drive it forward who understands media in both the US and China. Her previous
relationships with CCTV and with our offices in Beijing will be a tremendous
advantage for her and we are confident Kathy will take the business to a new
level."
Prior to her new post as General Manager of MediaWave, Ms. Jia managed the
distribution of CCTV-4, CCTV's overseas service, for International Channel
Networks in the United States. In addition, Ms. Jia was the Director of New
Business Ventures for EI. As Director she assisted in the establishment of
MediaWave as well as other EI investments and projects in China.
Based currently at Encore International's Englewood, Colorado
headquarters, Ms. Jia will move to Beijing in mid January. She is a native of
China and has lived in the United States for the past five years and is
excited to return to China, "This is such a great opportunity for me to use
every skill set I possess and bring it back to my home country. To be able to
manage and grow a business that is the joint effort of two huge media
companies (CCTV and Starz Encore Group) is truly a privilege."
"MediaWave is one of CCTV's success stories in terms of joint venture
cooperation. It is already profitable but it is small. With Kathy Jia on
board to manage the company, I am confident that she will grow MediaWave into
one of the premier advertising company in China. Both sides will support her
success," stated Ms. Wang Danjie, Chairman of MediaWave and Deputy General
Manager of China International Television Corporation (CITV), CCTV's
commercial arm and partner in MediaWave.
