GENEVA, Jan. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- STMicroelectronics (NYSE:
STM), one of the world's largest semiconductor suppliers and a leader in
data storage solutions, won a Visionary Company Award at this year's
Storage Visions Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. The special award
recognized ST's dedication to the development and support of
state-of-the-art storage technologies utilized in consumer electronics, the
media and entertainment industries.
"As with previous winners of the Visionary Company Award,
STMicroelectronics does more than simply design and manufacture specific
products to meet a particular need," said Tom Coughlin, President of
Coughlin Associates and organizer of the annual Storage Visions Conference.
"ST's vision, roadmap and contributions to the data storage industry, as
exemplified by its market-leading HardCache SL-3 and its 65nm Read Channel,
demonstrate the qualities that enable data storage products to meet
customers' needs today and into the future."
"While we always approach data storage and all our other markets as
businesses, we always try to add value by anticipating customer needs and
delivering products that make our customers successful," said Francesco
Brianti, VP Business Management and Marketing for STMicroelectronics.
"Given this strategy, we are proud to have delivered the HardCache-SL-3 and
the 65nm Read Channel, pleased at the industry's reception to products, and
deeply honored by the recognition of the Visionary Company Award."
STMicroelectronics offers a complete portfolio of technologies and
functional blocks for hard disk drives (HDD), including read/write
channels, configurable processors, motor and hard-disk controllers,
preamplifiers, memory subsystems and serial interface. At the end of 2007,
ST announced two important products that enable substantial advances in
data security and hard-disk drive capacity: an embedded crypto-module for
advanced HDD data encryption
