WASHINGTON, Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Powell, Goldstein, Frazer & Murphy LLP
is pleased to announce that Teresa M. Houser, former professional staff member
of the Senate Finance Committee, has joined the Firm's D.C. office as a Senior
Policy Advisor.
Ms. Houser coordinates the lobbying efforts on behalf of the Firm's Health
Care clients, which include the National Association of Public Hospitals, drug
and device manufacturers, home care providers, and physician groups.

her detailed knowledge of an array of Medicare and Medicaid issues as well as
her familiarity with the workings of the Hill," said Alan K. Parver, managing

Prior to joining Powell Goldstein, Ms. Houser held the position of
Associate Vice President for International Policy for the Pharmaceutical
Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA). Previous to joining the PhRMA
staff, Ms. Houser was Senior Health Analyst for the Senate Finance Committee
staff, where she developed the Medicare Part A and B provisions of the
Balanced Budget Refinement Act signed into law in 1999 and the Beneficiary
Improvement Act, enacted in 2000. Ms. Houser also worked with Congressman
Bill Thomas (R-CA) as a health legislative assistant where she helped craft
the provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
(HIPAA), which was signed in to law in 1996, and the Balanced Budget Act,
enacted in 1997. She also held the position of Director of Federal Affairs
for the Health Insurance Association of America (HIAA).
Ms. Houser received her B.A. in Political Science from the University of
Nebraska at Omaha and undertook graduate work at Boston College, where her
studies emphasized the governments and economies of the nations of Central and
Eastern Europe.
