CATC Announces World-First Industrial USB 2.0 to Ethernet Link Product

Third Generation EL200 Simplifies and Speeds Software and Data File Loading
                             For PC Manufacturers

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Computer Access
Technology Corp. (Nasdaq: CATZ), a communication protocol expert company and a
leading provider of advanced verification systems and connectivity products
for digital communications standards, today announced the availability of its
third-generation Industrial Link USB-to-Ethernet connectivity product, the
EL200. Conforming to USB 2.0 and Ethernet specifications, the EL200 is
designed to provide a standard Ethernet interface for USB-equipped computers
in industrial applications, such as the loading of software and data files on
personal computer assembly lines.
Simulating the functionality of a NIC (Network Interface Card), the EL200
is a sturdy external unit that enables network access for USB 2.0-compliant
computers without the need for installed network adapter cards. Capitalizing
on the superior speed of USB 2.0, the EL200 provides sustained data transfer
rates of up to 70 megabits per second, depending on the computer and network
system configuration. It can be easily connected between any USB-equipped
notebook, portable or desktop computer and an Ethernet local area network.
Network applications that communicate via an Ethernet card also work with the
EL200, thus eliminating the need to open the computer, insert NIC cards or
shut down the system at connection time.
"The new EL200 streamlines the test and data loading process with
increased performance and ease of connection for manufacturing applications,"
said Jean-Louis Gassee, CEO of CATC. "Since their introduction four years ago,
CATC's industrial USB Ethernet Link products have been adopted by all major PC
manufacturers as an integral part of their manufacturing process and are being
used in most PC manufacturing plants worldwide. We estimate that more than
100 million PCs were manufactured using the CATC EL products."
The EL200 is the only device available that connects a PC operating under
DOS to an Ethernet network through a USB 2.0 port. It employs USB 2.0 and
10/100BaseT high-speed interfaces and complies with the OHCI (Open Host
Controller Interface), UHCI (Universal Host Controller Interface) and EHCI
(Enhanced Host Controller Interface) specifications.
The new CATC EL200 is currently available directly from CATC or from any
of its worldwide distributors. Contact CATC for additional information.
