Devon Energy Announces Senior Management Appointment and Retirement

OKLAHOMA CITY, Jan. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Devon Energy
Corporation (NYSE: DVN) announced today that Lyndon C. Taylor, 48, has been
appointed to the position of senior vice president and general counsel of
the company. Taylor will assume the role that will be vacated January 31,
2007, by Duke R. Ligon, 65, who will retire from Devon after more than 10
years of service.
"Though we have been planning this transition for more than a year, it
is still a bittersweet occasion," said Devon President John Richels. "We
will miss Duke, and we could not be more grateful for the role he played in
Devon's unprecedented series of mergers and acquisitions over the past
decade. However, we feel fortunate to have an opportunity to welcome
Lyndon. His 20- year background in energy law and his solid track record as
a leader will enhance our executive team."
Taylor joined Devon in 2005 after spending two decades practicing
energy law with Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, a New York-based
law firm. After working seven years in the firm's Washington D.C. office,
he spent his final 13 years leading the firm's Houston office. Taylor has
worked with a broad range of energy companies throughout the industry,
specializing in contracts for the development of major energy
infrastructure projects around the world. Taylor earned his law degree with
honors from the University of Oklahoma in 1984 after graduating from
Oklahoma State University in 1981 with a bachelor's degree in industrial
engineering. He is a native of Walters, Oklahoma.
"I'm extremely excited to be with the Devon team and to be back in
Oklahoma," Taylor said. "I believe this is one of the best management teams
in the industry and I am proud to be part of it."
Ligon, who began his tenure in 1996 as Devon's first general counsel,
joined the company after spending 12 years practicing energy law and
finance in New York. His background also includes a number of years in
Washington D.C. in leadership positions within the Department of Interior
and the Department of Treasury as well as the Department of Energy. After
leaving Devon, Ligon will pursue other opportunities in business and
academics in Oklahoma City.
"I'm proud of what we've accomplished together at Devon, and I couldn't
be more satisfied with what the company has become. This is a very special
place and it has been a wonderful experience for me," Ligon said.
