Sign on the Dot.com Line - DocSpace Unveils Certified File Service

DocSpace First to Offer 100% Web-based File Management Services With
                         Digital Signature Capability

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- RSA 2000 -- Just sign on the
dot.com line. The DocSpace(TM) Company Inc., provider of guaranteed
Web-based file management services, today unveiled the DocSpace Certified
File Service(TM) (CFS), the latest addition to the DocSpace services that
enables users to digitally sign and encrypt important files right through
a Web browser. The announcement represents a first of its kind by a File
Service Provider (FSP), and is an important development in the way
businesses handle mission-critical files.
The DocSpace CFS, which is offered as an additional level of security for
DocSpace's existing file delivery, storage and collaboration services,
features security technologies that can be used to digitally sign legally
binding business documents including contracts, financial statements,
patents and designs. Many jurisdictions currently recognize digital
signatures as legally binding. The service is based on a combination of
industry standards, patent-pending designs and leading security and
Java-based technologies. The result is an additional level of security
that is easy-to-use and stands to save businesses both time and money in
providing start-to-finish Web-based file management, including the ability
to go 'the last mile' with important files by replacing handwritten
signatures.
"DocSpace's new service is a unique application of powerful security
technologies, and one that's positioned to address an important need for
businesses; signing electronic documents," said Chris Christiansen,
Program Director of Internet Security at International Data Corporation.
"It's also great timing from a legislative standpoint. DocSpace stands to
gain a lot of momentum from the legal recognition of digital signatures,
something that will hopefully happen soon at a federal level and has
already happened across Europe."
While the DocSpace CFS has the potential to benefit any business that
deals with documents requiring signatures or the utmost in confidentiality,
the financial services sector is expected to be an early adopter of the
service. This sector is positioned to benefit from a 60-90% cost and time
savings associated with replacing the millions of paper-based transactions
that financial firms handle each day (including letters of credit, etc.).
Furthermore, innovation leaders in the industry including Bank of America
Corporation (http://www.bankofamerica.com) and Identrus, LLC (http://www.identrus.com) also
recognize the value of the new service.
"DocSpace is poised to be a strong application fit for the financial
sector. DocSpace offers cost cutting and streamlining possibilities to
financial institutions," said Kristin Kupres, Chief Operating and Technology
Officer of Identrus, LLC. "The new service stands to leverage the information
security framework that we're laying out, as well as the trust relationship
our member financial institutions have established with their customers."
"The Certified File Service furthers our leadership in defining the
Internet File Service Provider (FSP) market," said Evan Chrapko, CEO of The
DocSpace Company Inc. "With DocSpace, businesses can now send, store
and collaborate on even the utmost of confidential documents through their
Web browser. Our customers already think of us as their document institution.
For them, being able to digitally sign a contract on the Web could be one of
the most exciting developments on the Web this year."
To support digital signatures, DocSpace will either issue users co-branded
VeriSign digital certificates, or allow them to import third party
certificates including the RSA Keon. The CFS is based on Public Key
Infrastructure (PKI) standards including X509, LDAP, PKCS, PKIX, S/MIME and
OCSP. Additional technologies for the service were provided by partners
including VeriSign Inc. (http://www.verisign.com), RSA Security Inc. (http://www.rsa.com),
Valicert Inc.(http://www.valicert.com) and Xeti Inc. (recently acquired by Critical
Path Inc. - NASDAQ: CPTH - http://www.cp.net).
