VeriSign and Nortel Networks Simplify Deployment of Secure Virtual
Private Networks
SAN JOSE, Calif., RSA CONFERENCE 2000, Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ --
VeriSign, Inc. (Nasdaq: VRSN), the world's leading provider of Internet trust
services, today announced VeriSign Go Secure!(SM) for Nortel Networks, a
service that accelerates the way organizations deploy secure virtual private
networks (VPNs). Go Secure! for Nortel Networks includes all the critical
elements needed to rapidly deploy a secure VPN using VeriSign's digital
certificates and Nortel Networks Contivity Extranet Switch. The solution adds
to VeriSign's range of VPN services, including the recently introduced Go
Secure! for Check Pointr.
Enterprises across the world are opening up their corporate networks to
remote employees, branch offices, business partners and customers by
implementing VPNs -- transparent, secure, and private connections across the
Internet. Expected benefits include decreased IT costs, streamlined business
processes, increased employee communication, and improved customer
satisfaction.
In order to achieve a secure, scalable and manageable VPN, network
administrators require a quick and easy-to-deploy network infrastructure based
on digital certificate services. VeriSign's Go Secure! for Nortel Networks
provides a fully managed digital certificate service to speed the deployment
of VPNs based on Nortel Network's industry-leading switches and clients.
Digital certificates act as electronic credentials to authenticate remote
sites, employees, business partners and customers, thereby ensuring that only
the intended recipients or network devices have access to transmitted
information.
"Access to corporate IT resources from anywhere at any time is a
mission-critical requirement for today's enterprise organization. VPNs offer
an emerging technology solution that slashes business access costs and greatly
enhances productivity," said Jeff Wilson, senior analyst for Infonetics
Research. "With VeriSign's Go Secure! services for VPNs, VeriSign offers a
leading choice for helping enterprises implement and deploy a scalable VPN."
Go Secure! seamlessly integrates with Contivity 2.6 VPN switches and
desktop clients providing automated certificate lifecycle management services,
freeing the administrator from the time-consuming burden of manually
generating, distributing, renewing, and publishing digital certificates, and
certificate revocation lists (CRLs). Go Secure! also simplifies certificate
acquisition by using an integrated client-based enrollment process to make it
easy for end-users to secure their communications and transactions.
"As the market leader in VPNs, we are providing customers with integrated
support for all the major PKI standards and leading VPN implementations," said
John Doyle, Director, IP Network Applications, Nortel Networks. "This
integration of our Contivity switches with VeriSign's Go Secure! services
gives enterprises a solution that enables quick and easy deployment of a
scalable site-to-site and remote-access VPN."
"VeriSign has been working with our enterprise customers to develop these
revolutionary new Go Secure! services to accelerate VPN deployment," said
Richard Yanowitch, executive vice president of marketing for VeriSign.
"Nortel's Contivity family coupled with our Go Secure! for VPN services take
the mystery out of setting up, piloting, and deploying scalable VPNs, thereby
making it possible to rapidly implement a hassle-free VPN."
Pricing & Availability
Go Secure! for Nortel Networks will be available in March 2000. Prices
range from $10 a user in volume deployments to $60 a user in pilot
deployments. Training courses are also available for VeriSign's PKI and VPN
services.
