VASCO Partners With Novell for Strong User Authentication; Adds to VASCO's Expanding Network of Strategic Relationships

Novell Modular Authentication Service (NMAS) Allows Users to Gain the Benefits
Of Strong User Authentication With VASCO's Digipass Technology

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- RSA DATA SECURITY CONFERENCE,
2000 -- The IdentiSoft division of VASCO Data Security International, Inc.
(OTC Bulletin Board: VDSI.OB) (Booths 435 and 1211), a leading provider of
Internet and enterprise security solutions, today announced that it has
partnered with Novell Inc. (Nasdaq: NOVL) (Booth 143), the world's leading
provider of directory-enabled networking software. VASCO is a charter partner
of Novell Modular Authentication Service (NMAS), which extends the benefits of
strong user authentication through VASCO's entire family of Digipass(TM)
authentication clients.
Novell NMAS is a unique framework that allows users to authenticate using
multiple and different Novell Directory Services (NDS) authentication methods,
providing flexibility and advanced security in a network environment. NMAS
gives network and security administrators more control over their
authentication environment through such options as requiring a sequence of
authentication methods to be performed before NDS access is granted, and the
ability to establish different login sequences based on the security and
confidentiality needs of the users in the network.
"Through our partnership with Novell, organizations can establish the most
secure NDS authentication environment possible by leveraging the strengths of
VASCO's token and smart-card based authentication technology," observed Jan
Valcke, General Manager of VASCO's IdentiSoft division. "Companies now have
the option of choosing VASCO's best-of-breed authentication solutions for
their needs, which offer them security at a low total cost of ownership while
ensuring continuity to future forms of authentication."
The VASCO Digipass Module for NMAS provides the server, client, and
management software required to deploy VASCO's Digipass authentication
technology. The module is able to perform authentication with any existing
and future Digipass model, including the Digipass Series 100, 300, 500, 600
(which combines proximity access control with logical access control in one
device), and Series 700, which offers an interactive GUI for complex
applications and ease of use. All Digipass devices support a Response Only or
Challenge/Response scheme in NMAS, and have advanced PIN protection
capabilities. VASCO has also enabled NMAS with secure PIN management
capabilities, which only an authorized administrator can access and which
reduce the time and cost of managing PINs.
"We're pleased to have one of the world leaders in strong authentication
technology on board for the launch of NMAS," explained Patrick Harr, director
of product management for Novell. "Novell Modular Authentication Service
provides a single, cost-effective point of administration for managing
conclusive authentication to your enterprise. VASCO provides a family of
authentication clients and proven expertise in strong user authentication.
That combination should prove to be an exciting option for our customers."
