AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Jan. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Siemens VDO Automotive Corp.
today announced the appointment of Frank Homann to Vice President of
Purchasing for the company's North American operations. He is responsible for
all North American purchasing and will work with key suppliers to utilize
their full potential to generate cost savings for Siemens VDO Automotive
products, while ensuring the highest standards for improved quality.
"Cost saving initiatives will begin with the development of solid
relationships with our suppliers at the early phase of product development
using the 'Target Costing and Design-to-Cost' approach through Advanced
Purchasing," Homann said.
Based at Siemens VDO Automotive's North American headquarters in Auburn
Hills, Mich., Homann is the first company officer to serve in this position.
Homann also will continue with his responsibilities supporting four
Siemens VDO Automotive divisions as Vice President of worldwide purchasing, a
role in which he has served since April 2001. This role is commensurate with
the Auburn Hills facility's shared role as world headquarters.
"For the purchase of electromechanical components Siemens VDO will use the
'Pooling of Demand' approach, while utilizing the power and purchasing volume
of Siemens AG, which is the second largest consumer of electronic components
in the world," he said.
For the purchase of mechanical components, Siemens VDO Automotive will
leverage through regional teams where strategies, roadmaps and pooling
concepts are defined and implemented.
With regard to Siemens VDO Automotive's e-business procurement plans,
Homann said, "E-business tools will become increasingly more important as we
continue to intensify our relationships with suppliers in the future."
Prior to his appointment to vice president, Homann was director of
advanced purchasing at Siemens Automotive in Germany. In 1998, he worked as
commodity manager for Sensors in purchasing. Homann began his career with
