Convergent Networks Joins Telecom Technologies' INIP Powered(SM) Partner Program

Integrated Convergence Switch Leader Extends Commitment to Open,
                   Best-of-Breed Service Creation Approach

    COMNET, WASHINGTON, D.C., Booth #1646, Jan. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Signaling
its continued commitment to delivering standards-based broadband convergence
infrastructure solutions, Convergent Networks, Inc., a leading provider to
carriers of packet-based, telephony grade switching and signaling solutions,
announced today that it has joined the "INIP Powered" Partner Program
sponsored by telecom technologies, inc., The Softswitch Source(TM). The INIP
Powered program focuses on ensuring interoperability between multiple
suppliers of service provider infrastructure technology. Joining the program
will enable Convergent Networks to further enhance its service creation
capabilities, originally launched in April 1999, and offer its customers the
widest variety of options to address both current and next-generation service
delivery and creation requirements.
As a member of the INIP Powered program, Convergent Networks will jointly
work with telecom technologies at the INIP Powered interoperability laboratory
in Richardson, Texas on interoperability testing between Convergent Networks'
Integrated Convergence Switch (ICS2000) and telecom technologies'
IntelligentIP(TM) softswitch, along with other INIP Powered partner products.
This announcement, coupled with both an additional partnership announcement
made today (see "Marconi Communications and Convergent Networks Join Forces to
Build New Public Networks") and interoperability demos being conducted at
ComNet, showcases Convergent Networks' extensive solution for the New Public
Network. Convergent Networks' ICS2000 is the only solution that allows
carriers to address critical application requirements today, while supporting
the requirements of tomorrow's New Public Network.
"At Convergent Networks, we have long supported the vision of delivering
open, standards-based infrastructure solutions for the New Public Network,"
said Sally Bament, Convergent's vice president of marketing. "By joining the
INIP Powered partner program, we are extending that commitment to building
standards-based interfaces to softswitch partners and, at the same time,
delivering on another component of the Service Enabling Architecture we
announced last year."
"Carriers need and very much want integrated technology solutions in order
to deploy advanced, profitable services fast and cost-effectively," said
Anousheh Ansari, chairman and chief executive officer of telecom technologies.
"Convergence is now a reality thanks to the cooperation of industry leaders
like telecom technologies and Convergent Networks in the INIP Powered Partner
Program."

    About Convergent's Products
Convergent's Integrated Convergence Switch (ICS2000) and Service
Management Gateway (SMG) provide the framework for next generation and
incumbent carriers to rapidly deliver high value, high-margin end user
services. Combined, the ICS2000 and SMG provide both interworking and
adaptation between traditional TDM and next-generation, packet-based networks,
and highly scalable call management with support for SS7 signaling. The
unique architecture of the ICS2000 and SMG allows service providers to utilize
a single product for multiple applications, such as Internet offload and
integrated voice/data services - greatly accelerating return on investment.
The product design also separates Convergent Networks from its competition in
terms of both scale and cost - accommodating over 100,000 DS0s in a standard
seven-foot telco bay at an average price of $25 per DS0.

About the INIP Powered Partner Program
The INIP Powered Partner Program is designed to accelerate softswitch
integration by facilitating the development of standards-based solutions that
promote interoperability between applications and media gateways. The program,
centered on the INIP Powered Lab, is the first of its kind in the industry and
offers its partners a well-defined pathway to integrate their software or
hardware into the end-to-end solutions that service providers are seeking. The
resulting integrated technology will offer carriers a bridge between
established network infrastructures and new technologies, giving them a way to
add cutting-edge services while controlling the costs of managing diverse
networks.
