Gateway Country Stores and AT&T Broadband Offer Consumers High-Speed Internet Options

Great Price on High-Speed Cable Internet Service And
Opportunity to Try Before You Buy Broadband

SAN DIEGO, and ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Jan. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Gateway Country
stores and AT&T Broadband are giving consumers another option for high-speed
Internet service through a joint marketing promotion, the companies said
today. The offer, currently available in six markets including Dallas,
Denver, Portland, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, and Seattle, allows consumers
to experience AT&T@Home in Gateway Country stores and purchase Gateway PCs
that include the high-speed cable Internet service.
In a matter of minutes, customers can find out if the service is available
at their home through special kiosks at the stores, register for the service
and order a new Gateway PC that includes a free built-in Ethernet card, free
Motorola cable modem and free in-home standard installation. Gateway Country
stores in the six markets also offer free clinics featuring hands-on
demonstrations of AT&T@Home's high-speed, always-on capabilities and provide
answers to consumers' questions about the service.
"Broadband makes the Internet faster and more interesting," said Cliff
Holtz, senior vice president, Gateway consumer division. "Just as we've done
with PCs and technology products, Gateway Country stores are making broadband
Internet access easier and more understandable for our customers by letting
them try before they buy and get advice from an expert, either in our stores
or over the phone."

Two versions of the package are available:

-- New PC Purchase -- Consumers buying a new Gateway Select, Gateway
Performance or Gateway Essential PC can choose to include the AT&T@Home
package with a free Motorola cable modem, free Ethernet card and free
professional standard installation through the end of April. AT&T@Home
Internet service costs $29.95 per month. There is no long-term
       commitment.

-- Stand-Alone Service -- Residents who already own a PC and want to
upgrade to broadband can visit nearby Gateway Country stores to find
out if they are eligible for the service. If they are, a Gateway
Country employee will provide them with a package including a two-month
trial period of free AT&T@Home service, free professional standard
installation and a leased cable modem. There is no long-term
commitment. If consumers continue to use the cable service once the
initial two-month trial is over, it will cost $39.95 per month
including the lease of the modem.

"This agreement with Gateway is a key part of our distribution strategy,
allowing us to reach and inform consumers about AT&T@Home," said Kimberley
Partoll, vice president of marketing for high-speed data services at AT&T
Broadband. "Retail alliances with companies like Gateway provide
opportunities for consumers to experience the power of the Internet, through
high-speed broadband service, in an environment where customers make purchase
decisions."
AT&T@Home service delivers the full power of the Internet using cable
instead of phone lines. There is no dial-up waiting or busy signals because
users are directly connected to the Internet when they turn on their PC. With
the faster Internet connection, consumers can make the most of their online
experience with a variety of enhanced multi-media content including streaming
video, audio and games. AT&T Broadband has more than one million high-speed
cable Internet customers.
