"NVIDIA is honored to receive this recognition from Game Developer
Magazine as it underscores our commitment to providing developers with the
best tools to enable the creation of compelling 3D entertainment," said Mark
Daly, vice president of content development at NVIDIA. "The investment we're
making in tools and resources is critical as developers look for new ways to
take advantage of powerful programming technologies, such as Shader Model 3.0,
enabled by our current-generation GeForce(TM) 6 Series graphics hardware."
Simon Carless, editor of Game Developer magazine added: "The Front Line
Awards were created to recognize those very deserving software and hardware
companies, like NVIDIA, whose tools enable the creation of ever better games.
They, along with game developers, are advancing the state of the art."
Nominees and winners of the Front Line Awards are selected and voted upon
by a distinguished panel of industry-leading game developers specializing in
the fields relevant to each category. Winners are based on utility,
innovation, value and ease-of-use.
Receiving top honors in the programming category, NVIDIA SDK 8.0 is a free
resource of hundreds of code samples, effects, and tools for game developers.
Similarly, "GPU Gems," the winner of the Books category, delivers a
comprehensive set of practical information for mastering real-time
programmable graphics. NVIDIA and Addison-Wesley plan to debut "GPU Gems 2"
at the upcoming Game Developers Conference, scheduled to take place in San
Francisco, Calif., from March 7-11.
The NVIDIA GeForce 6800 model graphics processing unit (GPUs) also
received recognition in the hardware category and stands among one of the top
hardware advancements of the year for game developers. NVIDIA FX Composer, an
integrated development environment that helps developers create, debug and
tune their shaders, was also a finalist.
A complete list of Front Line Award winners is featured in the January
