Longtime Real Estate Editor of the Chicago Tribune to Make Real Estate Major
Component of CBS MarketWatch.com's Expanding Personal Finance Coverage
SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ --
MarketWatch.com, Inc. (Nasdaq: MKTW) announced today that award-winning
journalist Steven Kerch, longtime real estate editor of the Chicago Tribune,
has joined its veteran news team.
As the new real estate editor, Kerch's responsibilities will include
expanding real estate coverage on the company's leading financial news site.
He will also contribute stories to the syndicated television program
CBS MarketWatch Weekend and the MarketWatch.com Radio Network.
CBS MarketWatch.com Executive Editor Dave Callaway said, "Steve Kerch is
one of the nation's leading writers on real estate, a subject of enormous
interest to millions of Americans. His contribution to CBS MarketWatch.com
-- on the web, television and radio -- will reflect the level of this
interest."
Kerch will make real estate a major part of CBS MarketWatch.com's personal
finance coverage, creating a new real estate page equal in scope to the site's
coverage of other personal subjects such as mutual funds and taxes. The new
section will contain news, charts and tools to help users determine how and
where to buy a home. Included will be information on the latest trends in
real estate prices and mortgage rates as well as tools for assessing the price
of prospective purchases.
Callaway continued, "Under Steve's guidance, the new CBS MarketWatch.com
real estate page will be an editorial powerhouse -- a first stop for the more
than 50 percent of prospective home buyers who now use the Internet."
An award winning writer, editor and producer, Steve Kerch comes to
MarketWatch.com after 21 years at the Chicago Tribune, where he was most
recently the paper's Real Estate Group Editor, responsible for the
Sunday Real Estate, Saturday New Homes and Friday Your Place sections.
Kerch's stories about housing, economics, government and other subjects
appeared each week in a column that was distributed nationwide by
Knight-Ridder/Tribune News Service. Since 1997, he has also been co-host and
producer of The Real Estate Show on WCIU Channel 26 television in Chicago.
Kerch's numerous honors include awards for "Best Real Estate Section" in
2000 and "Best Column, Newspaper, Magazine or Internet" in 1999 from the
National Association of Real Estate Editors. Kerch has also been a news
commentator on real estate issues for WMAQ-Channel 5 Television, WGN-720 radio
and elsewhere. He is a 1978 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison
with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism.
Kerch will be based in MarketWatch.com's Chicago bureau.
