Allume's New JPEG Compression a Hit at CES and Macworld

New Technology Displayed at Recent Tradeshows Reduces JPEG File Size -
Up to 30% - Without Reducing Image Quality

WATSONVILLE, Calif., Jan. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Allume Systems,
Inc., an IMSI company (OTC Bulletin Board: IMSI), unveiled its revolutionary
new compression technology to the press and to industry insiders at the recent
CES (Consumer Electronics Show) and Macworld trade events. This patent-pending
technology allows users to reduce the size of JPEG pictures by 30% -- without
altering the quality of the image. Where existing archive technologies such as
zip are unable to reduce the size of compressed JPEG pictures, this new
technology is able to replace the existing JPEG compression method with a more
efficient alternative.
"We have the only archive technology available that reduces the actual
JPEG file size without reducing image quality," said Matthew Covington, senior
product manager at Allume Systems. "All of the compression experts insisted
that this could not be accomplished, yet we actually did it -- this is huge!
The benefits to the digital imaging community are phenomenal."
In addition to announcing that these features will first appear in the new
version of StuffIt Deluxe, Allume also published a white paper that outlines
the future development of its image compression technology. Improved
compression for additional picture formats was described, along with the
introduction of a new picture file format, (StuffIt Image Format or .sif) to
aid the adoption of this new compression technology in embedded applications
such as cameras and portable media players.
