The iPlanet Advantage Software license enables Solaris 8 customers to
easily access, install and test full production versions of the industry's
leading e-commerce infrastructure software for a period of 90 days. Products
in the offering include:
-- iPlanet Web Server Software- As the foundation for a successful website
architecture, it can provide the central point through which all
business-critical content, applications and transactions must flow
before reaching users. iPlanet Web Server delivers the high
performance, reliability, scalability and manageability that an
enterprise needs to handle the massive volume demanded by successful
websites in the Net Economy.
-- iPlanet Application Server Software - For more demanding e-commerce web
applications, the iPlanet Advantage Software CD includes the current
4.0 release of Netscape Application Server. The application server
provides a comprehensive and scalable platform for development,
leveraging the flexibility and strength of the Java(TM) 2 Platform,
Enterprise Edition (J2EE) application model. It combines high
performance, scalability and high availability to support large volumes
of transactions. With an industry leading TP Monitor integrated as a
core service it can manage distributed transactions seamlessly,
reliably and quickly for Internet applications. Also included are the

-- iPlanet Directory Server Software and Solaris Directory Extensions -
Also now included as a core component of Solaris 8 (see separate
announcement titled "SUN TO INTEGRATE LEADING IPLANET E-COMMERCE
DIRECTORY WITH SOLARIS 8 OPERATING ENVIRONMENT"), the iPlanet Directory
Server is the world's most widely deployed e-commerce directory with
more than 150 million licenses sold. It delivers an LDAP-based user
management infrastructure that acts as a central repository for the
consolidation of employee, customer, supplier and partner information.
Building on the scalable infrastructure provided by iPlanet Directory
Server, Solaris Extensions provide native support of the NIS and RADIUS
protocols to further simplify the management of user and network
information.
-- iPlanet Certificate Management System - A comprehensive public-key
infrastructure (PKI)-based e-commerce solution that makes it easy and
more economical for an enterprise to deploy and manage its own
certificate authority. Extensible, modular components -- including
tight integration with the iPlanet Directory Server -- allow even large
enterprises the flexibility to more easily customize and scale to
millions of certificates.
-- iPlanet Webtop Software - An Internet-based solution that provides
secure ubiquitous access from any browser to all web or non-web
corporate resources behind the firewall. It helps enable an enterprise
to rapidly -- and inexpensively -- deploy and manage a remote access
solution for employee and partner portals.
-- iPlanet Sunscreen Software - A high performance firewall that consists
of a rules-based, stateful packet-filtering engine for network access
control as well as an encryption and authentication engine that enables
customers to create secure Virtual Private Network (VPN) gateways by
integrating public-key encryption technology. It delivers more secure
administration through an easy-to-use graphical user interface using a
Web browser.
