Merrill Lynch Names John A. Mckinley, Jr., Executive Vice President

    NEW YORK, Jan. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc. (NYSE: MER)
today announced that its Board of Directors has elected John A. McKinley, Jr.,
Chief Technology Officer, an Executive Vice President.  Mr. McKinley,
previously a Senior Vice President, is a member of the Merrill Lynch Executive
Management Committee and reports directly to Chairman and Chief Executive
Officer David H. Komansky.
    "This appointment recognizes the significant contributions John has made
in just over a year at Merrill Lynch to the advancement of our technology
strategy as well as the importance of his role to our continuing success,"
said Mr. Komansky.  "Working closely with our individual business groups,
clients and business partners, John has elevated our company's focus on the
use of technology as a critical component in the service we provide to our
clients."
    Mr. McKinley, 42, joined Merrill Lynch in October 1998 as Senior Vice
President and Chief Technology Officer from GE Capital Corporation.  As Chief
Technology Officer, Mr. McKinley manages a technology support organization
comprised of approximately 6,000 employees.  The global technology group
supports the business activities of the company's four core business groups:
Asset Management, U.S. Private Client, International Private Client and the
Corporate and Institutional Client Group.  Mr. McKinley's role involves
partnering with each Business Head to evolve the Firm's E-Commerce strategy,
handling the day-to-day operations of a technology group spanning more than
40 countries, and helping direct the Firm's private equity investing in the
technology arena.
    Mr. McKinley is on the Board of Directors of Proxicom, Vivant! and
CommerceQuest.  In addition, he is on the Advisory Boards of Internet Capital
Group and AT&T.
    Previously, Mr. McKinley was Chief Technology & Information Officer of
GE Capital Corporation, where he was responsible for managing the overall
technology function for 27 businesses within GE Capital, in addition to
directing a technology venture group.
    Prior to joining GE Capital in 1995, Mr. McKinley spent thirteen years
with Ernst & Young, where he was named a partner in 1992.  His practice
focused on financial services, airlines and other service organizations.
    Mr. McKinley graduated in 1980 from the University of Pennsylvania's
Wharton School with a Bachelor of Science in Decision Science.
