IRVING, Texas, Jan. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Michaels Stores, Inc.
(NYSE: MIK) announced today that Gregory Sandfort has been appointed Executive
Vice President-General Merchandise Manager, responsible for all merchandising
activities for the over 800 Michaels stores in the U.S. and Canada. He will
report to Ron Staffieri - President, Michaels Stores Group.
Sandfort brings 27 years of industry experience to Michaels, having spent
time in positions of increasing responsibility at retailers like Federated
Department Stores and Sears Roebuck and Company. Most recently, he served as
the Vice-Chairman and Co-CEO of Kleinert's Inc. Prior to that, he was Vice
President and General Merchandise Manager of Children's Apparel, Furniture,
Toys, and Electronic Games at Sears, responsible for the Children's Division
of 870 stores in North America. He also served as Vice President, Divisional
Merchandise Manager for Lazarus Department Stores, a division of Federated
Department Stores, and as Senior Vice President, Managing Director of Arthur
Anderson/Right Associates, Inc. in Cincinnati, OH. Before beginning his
career at F.W. Woolworth/Woolco in 1976, he studied Business Administration
and Economics at the University of Louisville.
