Infra Red and Ion Scanning Technology to Be Used as Security and Safety Measures at the Olympics: Salt Lake City, Utah

                 Infra Red Screening of Commercial Vehicles;
                         News Conference Feb. 4, 2002

SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The Utah Motor Carrier Division's
Port of Entry Authority will utilize the IRIS-IN-A-VAN(TM) to enhance existing
safety and security initiatives already in place at the 2002 Salt Lake City
Winter Olympics. I.R.I.S. uses infrared and ion scanning technology to detect
the presence of braking system and related operational defects, along with the
presence of narcotics, chemical toxins and explosives.
I.R.I.S. Infra Red Inspection System Ltd. manufactures a unique screening
tool that uses infrared technology to detect problems with brakes, tires and
running gear in Heavy Commercial Vehicles. A high-resolution monitor displays
temperature discrepancies as varying shades of gray ranging from black/cold to
white/hot. This equipment allows an Officer to identify trucks and buses with
potential braking problems (thus eliminating the need for inefficient random
inspections). The IRIS-IN-A-VAN(TM) is currently being used both in Canada
and in the USA in the following states: Alaska, Arkansas, Kentucky, New
Mexico, Utah and Virginia.
The technology now utilized by I.R.I.S. had its field trials during the
Gulf War when the same class of thermal imaging camera was mounted into the
nose-cone of the Cruise Missile. I.R.I.S. has since adapted this proven
military technology to a civilian application to protect the highways and
byways of North America.
The IRIS-IN-A-VAN(TM) now includes the addition of a Barringer IONSCAN(TM)
unit which can detect potential terrorism threats at the Winter Olympic Games.
The IONSCAN(TM) uses particle and vapor technology to detect and analyze the
presence of trace amounts of narcotics, chemical toxins and explosives.
I.R.I.S., along with New Mexico, Utah and Virginia, will give
demonstrations of this exciting infrared technology. Continuous screenings of
vehicles at the Olympics will continue until 28th February 2002. To schedule
a demonstration during this time or for any further information, please call
IRIS' toll free line at 1-877-789-4747 or visit our web site at:
