Ralphs Celebrates the Opening of its First Fuel Center; Fuel Center/Supermarket Combination is the First of its Kind in Bakersfield

    BAKERSFIELD, Calif., Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- A full cart of groceries and
a full tank of gas.
    Ralphs Grocery Company is pleased to be the first supermarket chain in
Bakersfield to offer shoppers the convenience of filling their gas tanks while
buying their groceries at its new Fuel Center located in the parking lot of
the Ralphs Marketplace at 5200 Stockdale Highway.
    Ralphs will celebrate the opening of the new Fuel Center with a
ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, January 30 at 7:30 a.m.
    "We are excited to open our first Ralphs Fuel Center in the City of
Bakersfield," said John Burgon, President of Ralphs Supermarkets.  "We know
our customers are busy and we believe our new Fuel Center provides one more
convenience to the one-stop-shopping experience at our California & Stockdale
Ralphs Marketplace store.
    The new Ralphs Fuel Center features four gas dispensers offering eight
fueling positions.  Customers may also purchase items such as ice, soft
drinks, tobacco products, lottery and lotto tickets, phone cards, candy,
chewing gum and automotive products.
    To enhance customer convenience, both the new Fuel Center and Ralphs
Marketplace are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  The Fuel Center is
staffed from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. and accepts debit or credit card purchases at
the pump from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
    Grand opening festivities for the new Fuel Center include free giveaways
to the first 500 customers each day beginning Wednesday, January 30, radio
remotes and other activities through Tuesday, February 5.
    Ralphs Fuel Center sells only high quality gasoline, purchased from local
major oil refineries, at competitive prices.  As part of its ongoing
commitment to protecting the environment, Ralphs utilized the latest in
technology to ensure that all EPA standards and requirements are met.
    Ralphs' parent, The Kroger Company, currently operates more than 210 fuel
centers in its divisions throughout the country.  The Bakersfield location is
the first for Ralphs with several more planned to open over the next
24 months.
