PKWARE Boosts PKZIP Capabilities for Windows

New Version Adds Lotus Notes Integration, 256-Bit AES Encryption and Extended
                          Data Compression Features

ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Extending its reach into the
enterprise software market, PKWARE, Inc., the pioneer and leading provider of
Trusted ZIP Solutions(TM), today bolstered its award-winning PKZIP(R) data
compression and security solution with the addition of IBM Lotus Notes
integration and a new Desktop Security module with advanced cryptographic
capabilities powered by industry-leading RSA BSAFE(R) software. The new
PKZIP 6.0 Professional Edition integrates state-of-the-art data compression
and encryption technologies, including 256-bit AES, making it easy for users
to efficiently and securely move more of their business communications online
while both lowering costs and streamlining business processes.
In support of PKWARE's enterprise cross-platform strategy, the company
today also announced the availability of PKZIP for Unix Professional Edition
6.0, also incorporating RSA BSAFE(R) cryptographic capabilities. (Note to
editors: Please see release titled "PKWARE Announces Major Upgrade to PKZIP
for Unix" dated 1/28/03.)
The new PKZIP Professional Edition 6.0 is being demonstrated at the
Lotusphere Conference, PKWARE booth 108, January 27-30, 2003 in Orlando, Fla.
With Lotus Notes integration, more than 90 million Notes users can now
join with the millions of Microsoft Outlook users who are able to take
advantage of one-click privacy protection, authentication and compression of
their email attachments by using PKZIP. When widely deployed within an
organization, PKZIP with Lotus Notes provides even greater benefit through
broader use of strong security, as well as significant reductions in bandwidth
and storage requirements for their email systems. The Lotus Notes integration
capability embeds the PKZIP compression and security engine within the normal
Notes email attachment functionality, making its operation transparent and
seamless. Standards-based RSA BSAFE encryption software for both
certificate-based and traditional password-based encryption and authentication
ensures the greatest protection and highest degree of cross-platform security
interoperability.
"Lotus software has always been at the forefront of the battle to maintain
secure communications, offering the most flexible and pervasive security model
for email and advanced collaborative applications, and we are pleased that
PKWARE is providing Notes users with another strong option for promoting
secure information sharing," said Ken Bisconti, vice president of Messaging
for Lotus Software from IBM. "With PKZIP, Lotus Notes users have a new tool
to exchange file attachments securely with partners, customers, vendors and
others outside the enterprise regardless of which email software they use."
"PKZIP is emerging from its roots as the gold standard for data
compression software to become a best-of-breed desktop security solution for
facilitating high-value enterprise information exchange," said Steve Crawford,
chief marketing officer of PKWARE. "With this release, we are leveraging the
advantage in security technology we have gained through our partnership with
RSA Security and combining it with our own data compression expertise to
provide customers with a high performance solution for securing data while
reducing storage and bandwidth requirements."
"PKZIP's integration with Lotus Notes, combined with its interoperability
and strong encryption features, bring tremendous benefits to our business,"
said Jim Maklary, microcomputer specialist from Lesaffre Yeast Corporation.
"The solution is extremely easy for users across the company and provides
significant time savings, enabling us to use much less bandwidth when sending
large documents. All this adds up to less money being spent on day-to-day
processes and more efficient use of employees' time. Now that we're using
PKZIP, I can't imagine how we ever survived without it."
PKZIP enables anyone to receive secure email attachments, regardless of
their email system, and allows them to easily decompress and decrypt the
files. Recipients using other ZIP products that do not support strong
security can still decrypt PKZIP-secured files by downloading the readily
available free PKZIP Reader from PKWARE's web site. In addition, PKZIP
archives provide a secure container for persistent data protection,
maintaining encrypted documents safely inside the PKZIP archive.
The Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) is a Federal Information Processing
Standard (FIPS) developed for use by U.S. Government organizations to protect
sensitive information, and is gaining broad industry support. PKWARE's ZIP
compression standards and RSA BSAFE encryption software are used universally
throughout the industry to ensure quality and interoperability. While others
may offer ZIP-compatible software, only PKWARE sets the ZIP standard and
delivers enterprise-strength solutions across multiple platforms with the
service and support customers require.

    About PKWARE, Inc.
PKWARE, Inc. is the inventor and continuing innovator of the ZIP standard,
the most widely used method for data compression on Windows, UNIX, OS/400, MVS
and other computing platforms. Since it was founded in 1986, the company has
been dedicated to extending the ZIP standard into products that meet end-user
and enterprise requirements for compressing files for efficient storage and
