CARLSBAD, Calif., Jan. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Continuing his remarkable
early-season surge, Callaway Golf (NYSE: ELY) Staff Professional Mark McNulty
won the South African Open Sunday for his second victory in the last three
weeks. For his 16th career victory on the PGA European Tour, McNulty employed
the extremely successful combination of Callaway's "Rule 35(TM)" Firmfeel(TM)
golf ball and the ERC(TM) Forged Titanium Driver.
His win highlighted a very successful weekend for Callaway Golf, which
dominated the driver usage at the South African Open with 56 drivers in play.
The nearest competitor had 39 drivers in play. A total of 28 golfers used the
new Big Bertha(R) ERC II Forged Titanium Driver, while another 15 used the new
Big Bertha Hawk Eye(R) VFT(TM) Titanium Driver. Two of the 56 golfers who
used Callaway drivers are Callaway Golf Staff Professionals; not one of the
56 professionals was paid "tee-up" money for using a Callaway driver.
Callaway Golf was also a winner on the LPGA Tour on Sunday. The winner of
the LPGA Office Depot event used a Big Bertha Hawk Eye VFT Pro Series Titanium
Driver -- introduced to the public last week at the PGA Merchandise Show --
and Steelhead Plus(TM) Fairway Woods in her one-stroke victory at Doral's Blue
Monster. Eight of the top 11 finishers at the event used metal woods made by
Callaway Golf, including four of the top five.
And on the PGA Tour, Callaway Golf Staff Professional Rocco Mediate
finished second at the Phoenix Open with an impressive 20-under-par total of
264. Mediate used his Hawk Eye VFT Titanium Driver and the "Rule 35" Firmfeel
ball to produce a driving distance average of 293.9 yards at the event --
20 yards above his driving distance average for the 2000 season. Mediate used
11 Callaway Golf(R) clubs at the Phoenix Open, including his Hawk Eye VFT

Irons.
McNulty's victory at the South African Open comes two weeks after his win
at the South African Masters and three weeks after a top-10 finish at the
Accenture World Match Play Championship. He now has more than
30 international victories. "I'm absolutely delighted with the way I'm
playing," said McNulty, 47, who has now won the South African Open twice.
"This is my best start to a year in quite a long time."
McNulty used 12 Callaway Golf clubs at the South Aftrican Open, including
