"Organizations of all sizes are currently experiencing significant
challenges as a result of energy-related expenses within their data
centers," said Rob Johnson, APC's president and chief executive officer.
"The strategic relationship between IBM and APC will produce a reliable,
scalable modular data center that will provide power, cooling, racks,
security and management capabilities that directly address those energy
challenges. From our experience in marketing products to small- and
medium-sized businesses, we designed this solution to specifically meet the
customer's need for flexible infrastructure that can install in virtually
any environment and still support the cost-effective addition of components
as a business grows. We believe that aligning a world wide leader in
critical data center infrastructure with the global leader in technology
services will produce an extremely attractive offering for the small- to
medium-sized data center market."
The new Scalable Modular Data Center service product is available from
IBM's site and facilities services unit. IBM will utilize its resources for
assessments, project management integration, and ongoing solutions-related
maintenance contracts. IBM will offer its customers pre-configured APC
InfraStruXure solutions, including perimeter or InRow(TM) cooling
(depending on the density level of the solution) and NetBotz(R) physical
threat monitoring, for data centers in the range of 500 to 1,000 square
feet. The InfraStruXure design, which integrates power, cooling, racks,
management, security and environmental and services, allows the selection
of standardized components to create a solution through modular and mobile
configurations. By using standardized components, the architecture easily
scales to meet the evolving needs of growing businesses. This
award-winning, patent-pending approach provides increased availability,
improved adaptability and speed of deployment as well as lower total cost
of ownership for all IT environments.
The Scalable Modular Data Center service product is currently available
from IBM in the Americas.
