ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Cingular Wireless, the nation's
largest wireless carrier and now a part of the new AT&T, has appointed
Douglas O'Neil to executive director of Network Operations for its North
Florida market, which covers southwest Florida across the state north to
Panama City and just over the Georgia line.
In his new role, O'Neil is responsible for the management and
performance of the company's network in West, Central and North Florida,
which consists of more than 1,300 cell sites. AT&T's wireless unit invested
more than $242 million in network upgrades and enhancements to these
markets in 2006, which included the rollout of high-speed 3G (third
generation) mobile broadband service.
O'Neil has 19 years of experience in telecommunications. He has held a
variety of management positions in AT&T's wireline, wireless and
international divisions, including his most recent post as senior director
of wireless and converged product management.
O'Neil is the recipient of numerous company innovation awards. He
developed an over-the-air subscriber activation process for the company's
wireless unit and has been granted 11 patents, with 40 more on file. He
holds both a bachelor's and master's degree in electrical engineering from
Georgia Tech.
