CHARLESTON, S.C., Jan. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- A broken water or sewer line
qualifies as a major inconvenience. It can cost thousands of dollars to fix
a broken line and you pretty much have to get it done immediately. And you
probably will have no idea how to select a contractor.
You'd think that homeowner's insurance would cover a broken utility
line, but most only cover the cost to repair the damage from the break, not
the break itself. That's despite the fact that -- or maybe because -- water
and sewer line breaks are such expensive occurrences.
That's why Service Line Warranties of South Carolina will begin
offering affordable water and sewer line warranties to residents of much of
South Carolina beginning February 6.
"A utility line warranty is like buying the missing part of your home
insurance policy," said Phil Riley, chief executive officer of Utility
Service Partners, Inc., the parent company of Service Line Warranties of
South Carolina. "Water line repairs can run from $1,200 to $2,000, while
replacing a sewer line typically costs between $1,200 and $4,000. Nowadays
most people are not in the position to write a check for that kind of
money, nor do they want to take out a loan or put it on a high-interest
credit card. But virtually everyone can afford a utility line warranty,
which should never cost more than a few dollars a month."
According to Riley, unlike insurance, which typically only provides
financial reimbursements in time of need, warranties provide a complete
service with no out-of-pocket expenses. "Service Line Warranties of South
Carolina sends a local, qualified and reputable repair professional, whom
we have prequalified, to investigate and fix the line break, usually within
24 hours," said Riley. "The customer does not have to evaluate contractors
or take bids. We take care of everything and pay the contractor directly,
up to the maximum of the warranty coverage."
Service Line Warranties of South Carolina will now begin offering
outside sewer and water line warranties to residents of Beaufort,
Charleston, Florence, Orangeburg, Spartanburg and Sumter counties,
beginning on February 6; the company will offer water line warranties only
in Greenville, Pickens and York counties. The company previously offered
water line warranties on a very limited basis in South Carolina in 2007.
The warranty covers the utility line from the main line to the house and
will cost $5.25 per month for water lines and $6.75 per month for sewer
lines.
Riley said that Service Line Warranties of South Carolina wants to make
obtaining a utility line warranty as easy as possible. "We are giving
consumers the choice of three payment plans, and any customer can cancel
the warranty at any time without penalty," said Riley. "Maybe that's why
surveys show that 97% of our customers who have had repairs would recommend
our warranties to a friend or relative."
