SAN DIEGO, Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Reaffirming its leadership position in
the PC industry, Gateway today announced new high-performance desktops for
power users. One of the most manageable and serviceable desktop PCs in the
industry, Gateway's E-4400 is available immediately with Intel's 733MHz
Pentium III processor. It will also support faster processors when available.
The E-4400 provides stability on a platform powerful enough for today's
computing needs, but can also grow with a business, providing enough muscle to
handle emerging software applications and next generation operating systems.
"Gateway's new E-4400 desktops are designed for today's power applications
and new operating systems, such as Windows 2000," said Michael Stinson,
director of desktop and portable product marketing, Gateway Business. "Its
stable platform, rich feature-set and expandability make the E-4400 perfect

can easily grow with their needs."
Powerful Software Applications Driving the Need for Increased PC
Performance
As the Internet continues to drive the development of new software
applications, business professionals are requiring more powerful PCs than ever
before. At the forefront of this trend is the increasing use of Web-enabled
applications, such as sales force automation and e-commerce. In addition, new
forms of processing-intensive user interfaces, such as 3D graphics, voice-
enabled software and streaming audio and video require background processes
for encryption, resource management and profiling. And frequently many of
these applications are open at the same time, further increasing the need for
computing muscle.
Gateway's E-4400 desktops are ideally suited to help businesses take
advantage of these applications. In addition to Intel's fastest Pentium III
processor, Gateway's E-4400 desktop line incorporates Intel's i820 chipset,
which ensures smooth data flow to the processor for unparalleled realism and
responsiveness. Direct connections between the chipset and subsystems enable
faster file transfers, smoother multimedia playback and lower system resource
consumption, resulting in an enhanced computing experience.
Students and faculty in higher education institutions will find the E-4400
can easily handle the intensive programming and software development conducted
in their engineering labs. These desktops are also well-suited for government
agencies' mission-critical applications such as flight simulations, 2D CAD/CAM
applications and 911 emergency dispatch systems.
While all Gateway desktops can be built with a variety of options, the
E-4400 can be configured as a five-bay convertible desktop or a seven-bay
mini-tower. The systems' 133MHz front side bus and 4X AGP graphics with 32MB
SDRAM ensures the fastest throughput available. Other high-performance
features include 256K Advanced Transfer Cache, 128MB Ultra fast Rambus DRAM
expandable to 1GB*, 17X/40X CD-ROM drives, 20GB 7200rpm SMART II UATA 66
drives, ATI RAGE 128 PRO and 3COM(R) 10/100 TP Ethernet. The E-4400 desktops
come standard with LANDesk Client Manager 6.0, and can be configured with
either Windows NT(R) 4.0 or Windows 2000.
Easy-to-Service and Maintain, due to Leading Configurability and
Manageability Features
The E-4400 incorporates the same industry-leading serviceability features
found across Gateway's E-Series of desktops, including push-button entry,
slidable drive cages and tool-free removable bays. These features provide
easy access to all components, allowing for efficient and hassle-free
maintenance. A leader in maximizing ownership costs and value, the E-Series
also incorporates industry-standard manageability tools, giving companies a
uniform way to efficiently inventory and manage their computing assets,
whether the systems are stand-alone or networked. Gateway E-Series desktops
include support for Wired for Management, DMI 2.0, Wake-up On LAN and ACPI
compliance. These tools provide support and comprehensive product
diagnostics, monitoring for chassis tampering and temperature levels, while
also providing the ability to remotely run maintenance tasks.

Gateway offers a number of service programs that can be tailored to a
company's specific needs. All Gateway business customers have access 24 hours
a day, 7 days a week, to a dedicated team of technical support professionals
