SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Providian Financial
Corporation (NYSE: PVN) today announced that it is rescheduling its fourth
quarter and full year 2001 earnings results from January 31, 2002 to February
7, 2002. Commenting on the rescheduling Joe Saunders, president and chief
executive officer said, "We continue to make good progress in finalizing the
key components of our capital plan with our regulators. This, however, is
going to result in a short delay in the release of our earnings."
The Company's results will be released shortly after the close of the
market on February 7. The release will be available on the Company's Web
site, http://www.providian.com. The Company will hold its conference call shortly
thereafter at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The call will be broadcast live over
the Internet through the Investor Relations page of Providian's Web site,
