New Survey from TRUE(R) Details the Different Ways Men and Women Approach the
Holiday
DALLAS, Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- How singles view and make decisions around
Valentine's Day is largely impacted by one overriding factor -- their sex.
And, you might be surprised to hear who's hoping for a gift on February 14!
Results from a recent nationwide survey, as well as previous studies conducted
by TRUE, the leading scientifically-based online relationship service, provide
great insight into the different ways men and women approach Cupid's holiday.
While many would believe women feel more pressure to have a date or be in
a relationship as Valentine's Day approaches, according to the survey, men put
a greater importance on this day: More than 25 percent made it their 2006 New
Year's resolution to have a date or a special someone to share the romantic
holiday with this year. Further, an even greater majority of men (85 percent)
said they hope to receive a gift on Valentine's Day.
"Men and women continue to approach dating and relationship choices in
different ways, and Valentine's Day is no exception," stated Herb Vest,

had identified in previous studies: both men and women value this holiday and
desire to feel needed and loved."
What is a Singleton to do?
If you're single on Valentine's Day, why not try a blind date? At least
that's what 42 percent of men surveyed said. But it's not the case for women.
Almost half of the women surveyed (45 percent) would prefer to go out for
dinner and drinks with a group of single friends, if they happen to be
dateless, signaling women prefer the comfort of what is familiar and safe.
One thing both men and women agreed on: If you must have a date, online dating
services are definitely an option. Over 83 percent said they will likely be
looking online for a Valentine this year.
The X Files
Should the ex remain a distant memory or is all fair game when desperation
sets in? Twenty five percent of the men surveyed agreed that calling on an ex
for a Valentine's Day date is much better than being alone. Women, on the
other hand -- more than 89 percent of them -- would prefer to be "smart and
single," date-free at home, than ever contact an ex.
One area where the survey indicated men and women were right on track was
in the gift-giving department. When asked about gifts they'd like to receive,
the majority of women (46 percent) preferred roses or any other type of
flowers in honor of the day. Coincidentally, this is the gift that men are
most likely to give to their significant others (55 percent). For those men
who said they wanted a gift related to their hobbies and interests -- more
than 19 percent of women said they're most likely to purchase such an item for
their Valentine this year. The second most desired item by women (16 percent)
was jewelry, while men will settle for a framed picture of themselves with
their special someone.

Singles don't like being alone on Valentine's Day. Of those surveyed, only 25
percent said they would stay at home and watch a movie if they were dateless.
