Unemployment Reduction in Southern Ohio Goal of Recent ABX Air Forum

SEATTLE, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Maximizing the employment of workers in
the southern region of Ohio was the subject of a recent forum sponsored by
ABX Air Inc. The forum brought together key state representatives from various
governmental agencies to discuss various opportunities and challenges to
employment, and to develop mutually beneficial solutions.
ABX Air Inc., the independently operated airline subsidiary of Airborne
Express located in Wilmington, currently employs over 7,800 people, and is the
primary employer in Clinton County. To keep pace with the rapid growth of the
company, ABX is regularly seeking to fill jobs in a variety of areas. The
unemployment level in Clinton County averages less than three percent in
contrast to the seven to 13 percent unemployment found in other counties. The
central goal of the forum was to open a dialogue between ABX and the other
regions in Ohio, and with the help of the state, determine ways to bridge the
gap between ABX jobs and the transportation and housing needs of job
candidates outside Clinton County.
"This forum is the first of many we hope to have towards achieving this
goal," stated Joe Hete, President and Chief Operating Officer of ABX Air Inc.
in his opening comments.
"ABX has an excellent history of providing good jobs for thousands of Ohio
residents, and we're excited to extend these opportunities to people who live
outside Clinton County," said Rich Corrado, Vice President of Administration
for ABX Air Inc.
Ronda Kinnamon from the Ohio Department of Human Services and JC Wallace
from the Ohio Department of Development also addressed the group of over
40 people in attendance, and provided critical data that will help facilitate
the success of the program. "We came up with a lot of ideas; some we had
explored before and some new ones," said forum chairperson Andrea McClain,
ABX Senior Director of Process Evaluation and Design. "It was a very
successful meeting. Many people from different groups were able to discuss,
question, and build on ideas that will involve the cooperation of several
agencies," Andrea concluded.
