THE EARLY SHOW Will Follow 14 Investment Clubs as They Compete For
A Maximum $500,000 Prize
SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Fourteen investment clubs from
around the nation will match wits to compete for a maximum $500,000 prize when
the "CBS MarketWatch Survivor" investment contest kicks off on CBS News' THE
EARLY SHOW Monday, Feb. 5 (7:00-9:00 a.m., ET/PT). Co-anchors Bryant Gumbel
and Jane Clayson will officially announce the 14 investment clubs selected to
compete in the contest from over 100 submissions, and each competing club will
be profiled on the broadcast.
Starting with $100,000 of imaginary money, participating clubs will see
their financial savvy tested over 14 weeks as they "buy" and "sell" stocks in
an attempt to amass the largest "virtual portfolio." Each Friday, the two
teams showing the worst financial performance will be announced and will each
be required to send one representative to New York to appear on THE EARLY SHOW
the following Monday. These representatives will compete in a face-to-face
test of their financial knowledge, and the losing representative's team will
be eliminated from the competition. The process will be repeated each week
until the club with the winning portfolio is left standing.
"By bringing together the resources of MarketWatch.com, the CBS Network,
CBS owned-and-operated stations, the 'CBS MarketWatch Survivor' contest
demonstrates the cross-promotional potential of these Internet and broadcast
properties," said Larry Kramer, Chairman and CEO of MarketWatch.com.
From over 100 submissions, the following teams were selected: No Cents
Investment Club of Chicago, Ill.; Hogback Investment Club of Golden, Colo.;
Brookwood Investment Club of Phoenixville, Pa.; Good Success Investment Club
of Brooklyn N.Y.; Laughing Stock Investment Club of Tempe Ariz.; Coastal Stock
Watchers of Carlsbad, Calif.; Investors 2000 Plus of Richmond, Va.; Leon
County Investment Club of Marquette, Texas; Piggy Bank Investment Club of
Spartanburg, S.C.; Mint Investors of Temple Hill, Md.; Polaris Investment Club
of Rivera Beach, Fla. and "Forest Street Investors" of Marlborough, Mass.
As the 14 investment clubs are trading, EARLY SHOW viewers and CBS
MarketWatch.com visitors will be able to play along with their own virtual
investment account and their own fantasy money in a website version of the
contest that runs from Feb. 5 through May 14. Players can enter the game via
the special contest website at http://survivor.marketwatch.com and are
eligible for weekly cash prizes of $1,000 and a grand prize of $50,000.
