DALLAS, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- With Valentine's Day falling on a
Wednesday this year, couples may be thinking about postponing their
celebration until the weekend. But hotels.com -- the expert in booking
hotels online and via the phone -- notes there are several benefits to
planning a getaway on Valentine's Day itself.

Those who work close to the city center or in popular neighborhoods
have a number of possibilities to choose from, ranging from smaller
boutique hotels to luxury high-rise properties. Many hotels may be
expecting greater crowds for the weekend following Valentine's Day, which
is Presidents' Day weekend and a three-day holiday for many. As a result,
couples may find greater availability and better rates by booking a hotel
stay for Valentine's Day itself.
Scott Booker, chief hotel expert at hotels.com, offers the following
tips for planning a mid-week celebration:
-- Reserve a room with a view -- When booking your hotel, consider
splurging on a room with a view or a suite. Once you decide on the
hotel, book your room as soon as possible.
-- Consider your options -- Being in the heart of the city gives you
plenty of choices for celebrating the occasion. You can plan dinner
at an upscale restaurant or a trip to the theater. Or, if relaxation
is your valentine's idea of a perfect evening, consider having a quiet
dinner at the hotel. To avoid disappointment, make your dinner
reservations or purchase event tickets now as restaurants and shows
often fill to capacity on Valentine's Day.
-- Pick a hotel close to work -- The less time you spend in traffic, the
more time you'll have for your celebration. Research properties that
are close to your office so that you and your loved one can walk or
take a short taxi ride there on Wednesday night. An added benefit is
that you'll have the same short trip to work on Thursday morning,
avoiding the hassles of your usual commute.
-- Start Thursday off right -- Take advantage of the hotel's amenities
prior to checking out. Visit the gym for an early-morning workout,
and be sure to make time to enjoy breakfast together, either from your
room or the on-site restaurant.
