World Champion Figure Skater Michelle Kwan to Author Books With Buena Vista Publishing

  
    NEW YORK, Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- World Figure Skating Champion Michelle
Kwan will author a series of books to be published by Hyperion Books for
Children, a division of Buena Vista Publishing Group, Inc.  The announcement
was made today by Steve Murphy, senior vice president of Buena Vista
Publishing Group, Inc., Lisa Holton, vice president and group publisher of
Hyperion Books for Children, and Michelle Kwan.

said.
    "Michelle's winning attitude and spirit will be an inspiration to children
and adults alike," Holton added.
    The first book of what is planned to be an eight book series, "The Winning
Attitude! Michelle Kwan Tells What It Takes to Be a Champion," is expected to
be published in the Fall of 1999.  In "The Winning Attitude!," Michelle will
coach readers to act and think as a true champion.
    "This relationship with Buena Vista Publishing is very exciting."  Kwan
said.  "It will allow me to reach out, touch and hopefully be a positive
influence on children around the world.  I am honored and proud to be invited

    Michelle Kwan's skating brilliance over the past four seasons has earned
her more titles and accolades than any other skater in the world.  In that
period, she has won 23 championships, including two World and National
Championships (1996,1998) and the 1998 Olympic silver medal.  She has received
38 perfect 6.0 marks in her career, and her skating accomplishments have
earned her numerous awards and honors including: 1998 Sportswoman of the Year
by The Women's Sports Foundation; the 1996 and 1998 Female Athlete of the Year
in figure skating by the U.S. Olympic Committee; and the U.S. Figure Skating's
Skater of the Year in 1994, 1996 and 1998.
