PLANO, TX USA
Online Course From EDS and Drake Certivo Teaches Colleges, Universities And
Exchange Program Sponsors How to Comply With New Federal Rules for Reporting
International Students and Exchange Visitors in the Wake of September 11
                                   Attacks

PLANO, Texas and NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Feb. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
America's colleges, universities and exchange program sponsors have two online
courses to help them pass a new test in homeland security they are required to
take by February 15.
Developed and managed by services leader EDS (NYSE: EDS) and standards
education company Drake Certivo, the two comprehensive, self-paced courses
train college and university officials and program sponsors how to adjust
their business processes to interact with the new Student and Exchange Visitor
Information System (SEVIS).
Part of an effort to ensure compliance with federal immigration rules
after the September 11 attacks, SEVIS is a computer-based tracking system that
collects, maintains and updates information regarding international students
and exchange visitors. Institutions failing to comply risk being barred from
further enrollment of international students.
The two SEVIS training courses -- A Course of School Officials (F&M non-
immigrant students) and A Course for Responsible Officers (J non-immigrant
exchange visitors) -- are available at http://www.sevistraining.com and cost $500 per
person.
"EDS is proud to leverage our e-learning capabilities to help educational
institutions meet this important homeland security requirement," said Al
Edmonds, president of U.S. Government Solutions for EDS. "Taking advantage of
this unique online training resource will make meeting their critical
reporting deadline much easier."

    Increasing Influence on Campuses
Complying with the federal rules is critical for colleges, universities
and program sponsors because international students and exchange visitors
represent an increasingly critical segment given their rising numbers on U.S.
campuses. International students and exchange visitors conduct a significant
amount of the academic research in the U.S.; comprise a significant percentage
of teaching assistants; play an integral role in securing research funding;
and contribute to campus diversity.
International students also contribute significantly to college and
university revenue. During the 2001-2002 academic year, the approximately
583,000 international students in the U.S. spent an estimated $12 billion, or
about $21,000 per student.
"Failure to comply with the new federal regulations on international
students can jeopardize their attendance and thus have a significant adverse
impact on institutional diversity, programs and funding," Edmonds said.
"These courses help colleges, universities and exchange program sponsors
understand what business processes they need to put in place, and how to
operationalize those processes, in order to be compliant. Ultimately, they
are designed to minimize the unintended consequences to institutions and their
international students and exchange visitors."
