iPower, Electricore & IUPUI Receive Indiana Joint Technology Grant

ANDERSON, Ind., Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- iPower Technologies, Electricore,
Purdue School of Engineering and Technology and Indiana University Purdue
University at Indianapolis (IUPUI) have received recommendation from the
Indiana 21st Century Fund's board to receive an $873,756 joint technology
grant. The purpose of the grant is to develop a system for connecting
independent power generation units and plants with the public utility
electrical grid.
This new distributed generation system control (DGSC) will combine with
the current research at IUPUI to incorporate the new IEEE 1547
interconnectivity standards into control products imbedded within the next
generation of 75kW and 150 kW iPower units. Scheduled for release this
spring, iPower's new products will clearly establish the Anderson, Indiana
manufacturer as a leader in the prime power generation industry, based on unit
performance and competitive cost.
Indiana Governor Joe Kernan announced the new grants as part of the
state's 5th round of $32.3 million awards from the 21st Century Fund. Created
by the General Assembly in 1999, the awards program assists joint ventures
between Hoosier companies affiliated with an in-state university for advanced
technology and economic development ventures and projects. The recommendation
will now be presented to the State Budget Committee for final approval.
Kernan said, "By providing awards early in the development phase of these
programs, we're helping them get off the ground, and in turn, helping grow
jobs and businesses in the State." The Fund has now awarded more than $110
million in grants to 85 projects since its inception.
Electricore, Inc., is a non-profit consortium providing expert
consultation, advocacy and project support for more than 70 multi-partnered
advanced technology research programs involving 50 companies and universities
and $150 million in federal projects. More information is available at

iPower Technologies was formed by AeroVironment of Monrovia, California
